I'm planning a trip to Japan in March or April next year and I'm planning on getting there via the Trans-Siberian Railway. I'll get to Vladivostok and then get a ferry (possibly to Fushiki?) to Japan. Does anyone know where is a good place to book my ferry tickets? I have found that the best prices are most often with Russian tour operators. I can't speak a word of Russian. I've started an e-mail contact with a good operator for the train journey and now need to find out about the ferry. Any help would be gratefully received.

Thanks.

Unless you're set on plans, I advise to you to take the ferry from China to Japan. Here in Japan I've been to numerous travel companies inquiring about ferries. I've never heard of a single ferry to Russia from Honshu. As far as I know, most ferries run between Japan and China, making that the cheapest and easiest way to go. Last year, I took the Trans-Mongolian line from Ulaan Baatar to Beijing. From there, it's relatively easy to take another train to Shanghai and then a ferry to Honshu or Kyushu. If you're interested, I can send you the info on a few travel agencies that arrange that sort of thing.
