I don't know if you guys have noticed, but I think when it comes to action-suspence/horror games, a number of vixens are the ones being chosen to take on the protagonist part. With games like Silent Hill 3, Clock Tower 3 and Fatal Frame, I'm glad there are other roles for them other than representing them as the "babe that'll kick a guy's ***" type of role; eg: Lara Croft, Danger Girl, Joanne Dark. I believe that with games like those, many more girls/women would get into gaming. ^_^

Or just to attract more fanboys...

I've noticed a lot of girls that likes anime likes video games also.

LOL ya I agree with you keiichi, it'll probably give a nice big booster shot of fanboys into the gamer populace.
But ya, I think its pretty cool that that there are more female figures in the lead roles of games.

I find nothing wrong with a strong female, lead character, and support more of it in the future. However what I truely dislike is when you take a strong male lead character and make a female copy, for the sake of political correctness. And vice versa.

An example of this would be in the new james bond movies, if you have watched 007 in the past you will notice that the women are weak(relative to bond) and sexy. Newer 007 now have basically a female james bond.

James is the star not the female, who ends up making him look a fool, because by nature the two would be competitive.

Don't change bond. Make a movie which has the female bond without the male part.

I agree with you there 'yasha. Not saying that Halle Berry's performance was stunning, it was more that she was trying to be better then him and it seemed like she was until the very end where she had to be saved by him.

Anyways, I think it's really nifty that they are making more girl main characters. Really neat that FF10-2 is all girl main characters. :) I still play more guy main character games then girl ones, but I still love them! :D

Maybe. I am going to get X-2, but that whole game has a more shoujo look to it and honestly, I think it looks like it was meant for girls with all that "clothes changing" sequence, like you see in a lot of bishoujo anime. For those who've only seen pics (eg. Yuna in hotpants) will think it's for fanboys, but for those who've actually read about the game and seen game screenshots and videos will see probably think the game is more for girls...

Well, my actual approach was, girls/women would have respectively broadened audience since the leads that I implied there were less seductive but maintains a strong feminine role. Like I said, I know that many guys are drooling when it comes to ***-kicking babes with guns or swords; nothing's wrong with that but girls are gonna think that these retarded nerds are forgetting they're not real. That's contradictory to the representation of lead females having less sexyness and more emphasis on the storyline rather than characters. Girls are gonna maybe think that there's more to it than just visible thighs, legs, and 34Ds. As for the fanboys theory, maybe...maybe not, what's there to 'see' after all right?

I love that there's finally more female lead characters! I'm a girl myself, and have always love when there were girls in games who weren't your stereotypical damsels in distress. Even though I still always choose Princess to play in the Mario games that let you have that choice...That could be just the slight feminist quality I have in me though. But I think it's great that there are more games with strong girl leads out now. ^_^

Can't deny that. 🙂 I'm one of them. Completely true. whoo-hoo! It's good to see that it's starting to become kinda Pro-Female now for video games. But who knows how long it will last.

INVADER ZIM in your sig!!! Thats tight!!!!

Zim: Were surrounded by madness and chaos..
Gir:: I like chaos
[I think thats how it goes.]
[meep]

I love anime and video games. Though video games came first for me. You know would be cool to have a girl main character in metal gear or at least for part of the game. I like both male and female leads in a game. It just depends if the game is good in itself or not,

Video games came first for me too! 😄 I've been playing video games since I was a little kid (I'm guessing age 4, at least). I didn't get into anime till I was 12, even though I had seen some when I was younger, I just didn't know what "anime" was then though.
