The original Microsoft operating system was based on open ware....
The GUI One might say that it was copied from Apple, and in fact Microsoft paid them a settlement for it, but by the same token it might be said that Apple copied it from Xerox.
Charity-I think Bill Gates didn’t copy this from anyone, and in fact he set the standard. It would be nice if Steve Jobs had copied a little bit about that...

Apple stole a lot from Xerox back in the day to develop it's GUI, and naturally that led to Microsoft developing a GUI for it's OS too. It's a moot question. GUI were the inevitable result of further home computer development.
Charity? Steve Jobs was nowhere near as charitable as Bill Gates.
