That pose is called 懐手[futokoro-de]. Probably that's used to show the "wildness" of the character.
 
Interesting. I never knew there was a word for that. Maybe the connection between resting your arm inside your yukata/kimono and being a badass has something to do with the iconic photo of Sakamoto Ryoma in this posture, and of the Yojimbo poster showing Toshiro Mifune scratching his chin with his arm inside his kimono. Two "outsiders" who have become more and more revered with the passing of time.
 
Reminds me of Napoleon with his hand between his buttons.

And men of the same era who wore their military dress jackets over one arm and shoulder when not on official duty.

We occupy so much thought to differences, but there are more similarities.
