I think that was because the Chinese market was trading for the first time after the Chinese new year and had been closed for 8-9 days beforehand, so it tanked as soon as it opened to reflect the losses that other stock markets had experienced while it was closed.Another oddity is that the chinese markets dropped 8-9% today, but the rest of asia didn't.
