Hi Guys,
This is my first post on the forum, nice to meet you all.
I have just received an offer to work in Japan, and am in the process of applying for a Certificate of Eligibility. For the past two and a half years I have been working in London for one of the largest financial derivatives brokers in the world - the company want to send me to their Tokyo office to fill a position there. The salary offered is 9million Yen and accomodation/health insurance will be provided furthermore.
Usually this would provide no work permit issues, however due to the fact that I am only 22 years old and have no BA University degree, I am a concerned as to where I stand and what my chances are of it being approved?
The company are keen to push it through, and it should be noted I am considered an Approved Person by the UK Financial Servives Authority in the field of Derivatives, having passed my professional qualification.
Its a tricky one...but any advice as to my chances would be appreciated.
Cheers

What do you mean?

You have an offer to work.
It's with a branch of your current company.
Apply for the intracompany transfer work visa. http://www.mofa.go.jp/j_info/visit/visa/appendix1.html#7

MOFA is not entirely clear about what education you need, other than to say you need to supply this:
"A diploma and documentation certifying the career of the person concerned."

Go for it. I'd have the branch office confirm that what you have is nearly certain. Immigration will never say they guarantee the visa, but they will certainly tell you if you are NOT eligible.

Congradulations on your job. I can always admire people who are good with money...I just spend mine then wonder why I do not have any

I am assuming that you have UK citizenship with a UK passport from the little flag.

This infomation is from the embassy of Japan in the UK. If you are not a UK citizien then you will have to check the Japanese embassy of the country that you hold a passport to.

"4. Legal/Accounting Services

Activities authorized to engage in: Activities to engage in legal or accounting business, which is required to be carried out by attorneys recognized as a foreign law specialist under foreign lawyers law (Gaikokuho-Jimubengoshi), (Gaikokukoninkaikeishi) certified public accountant practising foreign accounting under the accountant Law or those with other legal qualifications.
Period of stay: 3 years or 1 year
Must obtain Certificate of Eligibility to apply for this visa"

Unfortunatly, you do need a BA to get the certificate of eligibility (as far a s I know)

Alternativly, there is the working holoday visa

"Working Holiday visas, valid for a period of one year from the date of issue, will be issued to persons who satisfy all of the following requirements:

be the British citizens who are resident in the United Kingdom
intend primarily to holiday in Japan for a period of up to one year from the date of entry
be aged between eighteen (18) and twenty-five (25) years both inclusive at the time of application for the said visa, except in those cases where the competent authorities of the Government of Japan agree to extend the limitation of age up to thirty (30) years
be persons who are not accompanied by children
be persons who are not accompanied by spouses unless those spouses are in possession of the said visa or otherwise
possess a valid passport and a return travel ticket or sufficient funds with which to purchase such a ticket;
possess reasonable funds for their maintenance during the period of initial stay in Japan
intend to leave Japan at the end of their stay
have not previously been issued the said visa
have good health"

It is all there on the Japanese embassy website. It might be best to get in touch with someone there

And hey, I am full of other good advice and I can help you spend your salary too!!

Listen more to Glenski than me

(can I still spend your salary)
