In Japan Times,. Simon Bartz makes a list of the best music for 2002. Many Japanese musicians/bands made the list.

No. 2 --> Shonen Knife -- "Heavy Songs"

No. 3 --> Anadorei -- "Pussy Cannibal Holocaust"

No. 4 --> 4. Guitar Wolf -- "UFO Romantics"


No. 17 --> Mummy the Peepshow -- "Schoolgirl Pop"

No 19 --> Dry & Heavy -- "From Creation"

Yeah well, he interviewed and reviewed albums from many of those Japanese bands, so it's not surprising they're on his list.

Yes, if you limit your taste to the punk and straight edge genres.

The artists he mentions are better known outside of Japan then in Japan itself.
