Anyone know how to become a japanese citizen? I was just wondering...I know the american way since schools taught me about the government. Do you have to sign up for anything or wait a certain amount of time like immigrants in the us? Do you have to speak fluent japanese?

Please refer to my previous post here

It's not easy at all..Mostly to weed out the wannabes and idiots. I know only a handful of foreigners who have been granted citizenship, and they say the interview with the official goes mucchhhh better if you're excellent at Japanese...

But in all respect I see very little people, including me, ever becoming Japanese citizens, haha...Even if you become one, you'll still always be a gaijin :)

And by the way, you *must* give up US citizenship if you are to become a Japanese citizen..

I WANTED IT SO BAD !!

30 years ago when I checked into giving up my US citizenship; I was ready to dye my hair black, where brown contacts, and get my eyelids slanted so I could look the part. The Navy shipped me out before I could apply.
