What darkrikku66 had wasn't wrong, and neither is what you wrote (at least not in the sense of ローマ字). They are just different ways of romanizing, Hepburn (darkrikku66) and Kunrei (you).

Note that this is a way of answering the phone, or of getting someone's attention. When you say "hello," こんにちは would probably be best.

@Uncle Frank - lots of times people will mistakenly say "mus(h)i mus(h)i," which would mean "bug, bug" (虫虫)!

Well...I got it from a my Japanese friend....so I think it's used that way more ??Well you know Japanese better than me so I don't really dispute with that


BUT I found out Mushi mushi(むしむし) means "hot & humid" ??
and musi musi(むしむし) = insect

edit: moshi moshi indeed is used as "Hello" on the phone

By the way, I used the parentheses to show both conventions of romanization. むしむし can be written either as "musi musi" or "mushi mushi"; both are correct and there is no difference in meaning. The former is the one taught in Japanese schools and used more by the Japanese, and the latter is taught to foreigners learning Japanese (mostly those whose native language is English). When I said that mushi mushi is insect, I was just thinking of repeating the word, and not using it as one word.

I have like the J-rock and GL styles ever since I watched Witch Hunter Robin Do you know when it would be? I live in Rochester, Ny so I might be able to make it if I had dates and times and stuff.

hello again, i used moshi moshi becuase im used to saying that word to everyone. didnt think it would make 4 posts though (ignore the spelling) lol. i just found out today that the gothic lolita picnic was persponed to next week, will get more information soon ^__^

I think that the way the Japanese said the term, it sounded more like "Mosh mosh" (without the "i" sound), at least that's what it sounded like when I heard it in the electronic medium, or could it be that it's because the actual "Moshi moshi" sounded are censored?

I do know that the Japanese say things like "ashta" instead "ashita", was it just the way to say it (like "ha" particle said as "wa"), or is there a fox conspiracy involved here?


Anyway. "Moshi moshi" was used by the Japanese to test if the person on the other side was a demon fox or not, since the demon fox is incapable of saying it (or maybe was affraid of saying it?). The term has no actual meaning so far I know.

Personally, it's probable like native north americans testing the true nature of the person they're dealing with peace pipe. The native north americans like many people around the world probably are also expert on dealing with kami/jin. Of course, the whole testing part is useless if the person you're dealing with was a human that is a subordinate of the demon.

Yes, I've heard it as "ashta" as well :haihai:
It's a fricken conspiracy, I tell ya! (Not sure if a fox is involved though)
