Are there many remnants of the ancient animistic religions of Japan? I have looked up the origins of Shinto and Budhism in Japan, but does anyone have experience with the older forms of worship in Japan?

Thank you.

I can't read Japanese however. The second two pages won't display properly on my system. But thank you anyway.

sabro-san,
I'm just posting webpages in English giving similar information to what Nagashima-san posted:

Kebesu Festival: http://www.pref.oita.jp/english/culture/festival2.html

Jindai moji: Jindai Moji

The second is about Himiko, which you can find by googling: Himiko, shaman, priestess, etc.
The oldest chronicle of ancient Japan is the Wei chronicles of Chinese who visited the Japanese archipelago (can't give dates :sorry: )
