Yesterday I was chatting in a public English speaking chatroom. I was talking to a guy when he told me that he's also German. I wrote an English sentence he couldn't understand, so I repeated it in the German language. I only wrote this German sentence when a few other users began insulting me: They said things like 'talk English you bastard '**** you and such things... Well, not that bad, I thought. But then one user wrote, 'piss off you Hitler ***, and another wrote ', yeah! You ******* nazi! One German sentence caused such harassment... I asked them why they were saying that and tried to explain: Sorry, just wanted to translate a sentence he couldn't understand because his English is too bad they just answered things like Jews are such nice people... can't understand why you hate them, you son of a *****...!

Being insulted as nazi or Hitler ***. I was shocked, and I still can't understand... Something I want to say at this point: It doesn't matter if someone is jew, Muslim, Hindu, or whatever... and if someone believes in a twelve eyed green god from mars...I don't care. Does the character of a human being depend on his religion or belief? -I don't think so. I also can't understand why a German is called such names just because he writes a single German sentence. Hitler was definitely one of the worst things that ever happened. I don't say forget about that, but do we still have to do penance for the past?! Hitler ***... -Is that the international image of German people??

Please tell me what you think about that. Thanks.

People everywhere have different levels of intelligence.
You've come across the absolute bottom level back there. :)

"Yesterday I was chatting in a public English speaking chatroom."

There's your problem right there... The intelligence level of most chatroom junkies (sorry, it's true) or frequent posters in an unmoderated format is usually less than or equal to the number of bad Hollywood sequels in any given year. Don't believe me? Check out Yahoo's chat rooms and or message boards and you'll see what I mean...

That being said, don't second-guess yourself so much when an anonymous stranger (and an ignorant one at that) throws a derogatory comment aimed your way. People need to have thicker skins rather than worrying about the asinine dialogue some half-wit shama-lama-ding-dong in a chatroom or on a message board throws their way. Chances are, said person is probably just irritable after getting home from cleaning the grease out of the fryers at work all day and taking their simple-minded frustrations out on you. 8-p
:)

Once I chatted with us American woman, she told me how she once told her kids that she was chatting with a german. One of the kids' first reply was, "you were chatting with a nazi?".

Well, prejudices are everywhere. Some overcome them earlier, others later. some sad subjects will never overcome them (though, of course, everyone will always have prejudices since no one knows everything. but you know what I mean)

I always think of engineering excellence in automobiles and Oktoberfest when I think of Germany.
:)

 I'm a bit shocked by what was said to u. I agree with what Twisted said - some people are simply morons. when I think of Germany, I see Dietmar Hamann - Liverpool FC midfield extraordinaire

dumm leute sind dumm leute. ich mag deutschland, weil mein oma und opa deutshlander sein. i wouldnt worry about those people too much man.

I totally agree with Iron Chef. A lot of people in chatrooms have no life, and the only way they can get out their frustration and aggression is to attack people in a chatroom, because that's the _only_ place they could actually attack anybody.

When I think of Germany, I also think of well-engineered cars and beer!

I'm very sorry that happened to you, Himura.

 man, we are neighbours lol :D
You really think only german people did horrible things in the past
Seriously, it's hard to say this...but I think almost every country did horrible things in the past...all we can do is learn from it and use every piece of information from the past to create a better future.

No need to worry's :) and when you're in holland call me :D

to get some asian/south-american/europe chicks with allitle bit of african way of dancing :D

(dont' tell my gf ok !, she will be jalous becuase she's only dutch :D)

Well, I have thick skin, so this will not be a problem for me... -And yes, Kevin, you're right... every country did horrible and bad things... but especially Germany will always have to do penance for what happened... but that's not the point. I don't know what to say about such quite frustrated jerks without a real-life... poor guys...
Hey Jeisan, your German is great :) (if I ever go to Holland, I'll call ya, Kevin^-^)
And I also want to use this post to say how much I like the jRef and all its great members!! Thanxxx to all!!! 🙂

Hmmm.. Oktoberfeast! The German Club celebrates that at our school. Root beer floats for all! *hands out lots of root beer floats*

I admit that I look at the negative of person when I first meet them, but then I get to actually know them before I start judgeing them. It's this humanly impulse that we automatically look at the downsides of a person, such as they're black, they look dorky, or they're fat. After I've really sat down and took a good look at the person and their character then I see they aren't as bad as they seem.

I wish the world would learn to get to know somebody before making false comments or meaningless jesters at them.

Sorry this happened to you Himura! :sorry:

In school last year, we talked about world wars. Germany, technically, wasn't, in my opinion, wasn't entirely to blame. If I remember correctly, Italy, Austria and Russia were just as much to blame. Still, I guess that it seemed easier to blame everything on Germany then to blame only those who were responsible. But this is just my opinion on the whole thing. lol😌

danke himura. :) though it still needs lots of work since i cant remember alot of words and their meanings

Soooo much pain !!!

I'm always amazed how hurtful people can be ! Having a negative comment thrown at you can really get under a person's skin. I sometimes lay in bed feeling bad and trying to understand why somebody said something that can make me feel soooo bad. I guess I need to get a life or find a thicker skin !

True... everyones opinion is here is right here... Well, maybe the world will change...someday...

I'm not even a german person, and I get the same thing! I'm a born and raised American, but because I'm like a third german, people always assume I'm a nazi. When I was at lunch the other day at school, someone sat down with my friends and me then their friend came over, grabbed him, and said, "you don't want to sit here. This is the nazi table" I couldn't believe that she said that.

My best friend is a fourth or so german and when we were younger we use to joke to each other about her being a nazi but we never meant it and she knew that and we are still the bestest of friends. :)

I'm a good portion of german, is why I learned to speak it abit. but I've never had any negative experiences with it either. Even when speaking german in public chatrooms and the like. some people are just ignorant
