I've decided to begin learning Japanese, I am a complete novice. so im looking for some guidance and advice to get me started on the right track, thanks.

Learn Hiragana, then compare it to Katakana to learn that as well. Then take a class. You should be ahead of everyone else the whole class if you already know those 2 writing systems.

I have never taken a class and I would if given the chance despite my mixed opinions. A class can help you in the way that you have a teacher who can you give you more specific, fast and easier to understand advice than the internet however it can hold you back if you are ahead/behind the rest of the class and are stuck in that position until you/they catch up.
