I have always been interested in Japan...not really sure why...I have no decendants or really close friends that are Japanese, but I have always had that facination. As I grew older my facination increased as well as became more focused. Before it was just a general facination that a lot of children have (anime and such), but now I find I am not only interested in the language, but the culture and history behind Japan. I had a Japanese foreign exhange student stay w/ me last year that was rather unplanned which pulled me even deeper into the wonders of the Japanese culture and lifestyle. I have continued to keep in touch and ever since tried to learn Japanese. Unfortunetely I have been very busy with school (first year of college) and work and have not had the time necessary to study as I wish I could. I just found out that Minako (the exchange student) will be coming down this spring to visit me once again. This has renewed my efforts to learn Japanese. I am currently teaching myself but have found that rather difficult so I am in the process of finding myself a Japanese tutor that will be able to help me. This will also help keep me on track (I'm a terrible procrastinator ) and hopefully speed up my progress. I don't expect to be able to speak Japanese by the time she gets here, but I would at least like to of mastered the basic concept of the language by that time.

I am very happy that I have found this site and found it as easily as I did...I decided to look for some type of forum today where people interested in Japan talked, and it seems I have found one beyond my wildest dreams. I think that it is great that you have put together this great site for people that share this common interest. Thank you! Or should I say arigato? Anyway, just wanted to put in my two cents. Thanks again!

P.S. If anyone knows of place for a tutor / teacher in my area for Japanese I would greatly appreciate it...I have been searching on the web without much luck so far. Next I might put an ad at a college or something, but if anyone has any insight I would be much obliged.
Thanks!

Hi George !

You might try contacting your local police, sheriff, or hospital. The all keep lists of translators they can use. They probably won't give you a name, but you can ask them to pass your name on to a Japanese speaker as a possible student. Our local Adult Ed has inexpensive courses and you may have a Japan American Society branch in your area that offers classes. It is much easier to learn with a native speaker to practice with. Good Luck !!

Hi George! I am new here as well (second day) but I can say that this place is really cool. I certainly have enjoyed myself here so far, and I hope you do as well.

P.S. I am a pretty terrible procrastinator as well. :)

It is from Rurouni Kenshin...it is Seijuro Hiko, Kenshin's master.

:)

Have you seen the Kenshin series?

Oh yeah, Kenshin. I have seen the whole series and the OVA's, but I am still waiting to receive my copies of the OVA plus the movie (I saw the OVA's online). I do not think that I understood all of what was happening in the OVA's, because I was tired and a little drunk when I watched them. Anyway, what did you think of the series?

万歳人斬り抜刀斎!
万歳緋村剣心! (I hope that that is the right kanji for his name)

I liked the series...it was a little repetative, but I enjoyed it none the less. I think my favorite thing from all of Kenshin was the last movie...Reflection...it is the final contribution to the Kenshin series...if you haven't seen it you should! But don't watch it before you have seen the rest of Kenshin cause it will kind of ruin it... :) I have watched the series (episodes and ova) at least 3 times! hehe

What is your favorite anime?

Yeah, I have already seen the entire series. From what I remember of the Seisouhen (Reflection) there was not really all that much to spoil, especially considering that the series kind of died after the Shishio ordeal. I liked it though. My favorite anime, hmm... Kenshin is up there, as well as Dragonball/Z, The Slayers/Next/Try, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, and Berserk. I guess that is about it.

As far as spoiling I meant the fact that Kenshin dies...if I was in the middle was watching the series and movies, it would have been upsetting for me to know that he dies...all through the movies and series, I never thought they would show him die...thought he would just live forever. :(

The fact that he died did not surprise me as much as how it was presented, and without much of a wrapup at that. I thought that he would die at the end of the series, but he was still pretty healthy then. It still feels as though they left it up in the air to me, though.

I heard rumors that they will continue the series w/ his son....have you heard anything about that?

No, I have not heard anything about that. I am not too sure about that, though. From what I remember of the Seisouhen it does not seem like his son would be anything like he was. Let me know if you hear anything else about that, though. I would be interested to hear about it.

I see that! I have had so many interesting conversations in the first several days I have joined up and read the greatest posts! I am so glad I joined! Thanks for the great welcome!

🙂

Good to have you George.

Pretty new here myself, everybody's very welcoming. A common interest, and Japan is very interesting, unites us all!

Best of luck for the new year, Omedato kasimais George san.
