天から雨がふつてくるようすをあらわした

I know it has something to do with rain, but ...

天 I think means day
雨 rain
but the rest "wakanai "

For one thing, it's 降てくる (ふてくる), not ふてくる. (The size of the つ matters).

天 means the sky (or "the heavens").
から is a particle meaning from
降る is to fall, 降ってくる is to fall in this direction (or "fall down").
様子(ようす)is appearance or condition.
表す(あらわす) is to depict or express.

あらわした is in past tense, so as is, this means "It depicted the condition of rain falling down from the sky."

If it had a word on the end of it like 言葉(ことば, meaning "word"), it would mean:

天から雨が降ってくる様子を表した言葉
a word depicting the condition of rain falling down from the sky

It sounds like a dictionary definition.

Hey MG, when you need a translation, your first step should be to go to Google Translate.

Here is your example as it is translated by Google Translate, and I think the Google software did a pretty good job.

天 I think means day

If you have studied Chinese, you may be getting your Chinese and Japanese mixed up. 天 does indeed mean 'day' in Chinese, but in Japanese we use 日.
