Hi,

1. Two students are discussing preparations for 大学祭:

毎年、活動の発表と露店の二つをやってるけど、今年も それで行くでしょう。

a) What exactly does 活動の発表 refer to?

b) Does それで行く mean the same as its literal translation of "go with that" (i.e. stick with the same setup of 活動の発表と露店の二つ)?

2. ちょっと大きいけど、この封筒でいいや。

Translation given: "It might be a bit big but this envelope will do just fine."

a) What is the function of で?

b) What does や signify?

3. ただ、コストをできるだけ安くしないと、大変なわりに はもうからないからね。

I understand 大変な to mean "enormous", "serious", etc. and わりに to mean "relatively", but what does the combination 大変なわりに mean?

4. あの店は何時までだっけ。

Is this asking / trying to recall the time the shop/restaurant closes?

Long time no see.🙂 I'm glad to see your post again.

1) a)
There are two possibilities, i) what they did in their club this year, ii) what they did in their seminar this year. It depends on which group they are referring to now. (the former, perhaps?)

b)
Yes.

2) a)
~でいい has a nuance of "not perfect, but enough".

b)
For assertion. Unlike よ, や shows that the speaker speaks to themselves.

3)
When わりに is modified with an attributive, clause or phrase, it means "for / considering", not "relatively".
e.g.
彼女はわりに若い。
She is relatively young.

彼女は年のわりに(は)若い。
She is young for her age.

4)
Yes.

Hi Toritoribe, thanks for your kind reply. Yes, I have been having a little break, but back on the study again now!

1a) Would 発表 refer to some kind of printed notice displayed at the 露店?

3) I understand your explanation and example, but I am having trouble transferring it to 大変なわりに. How would you translate that phrase into English in the context of that sentence?

1) a)
窶敖ュ窶「\ could be a presentation perfomed by a member/members, but anyway, it would be done in another place than ヒ廬窶弭.

3)
The gain is too little, considering the degree of how hard the work is.
