I understand for the same kanji we're supposed to say いえ to refer to the physical building of a house or a home,うち a household or a family. Kanji is usually used only for the former meaning and read as いえ.
However I’ve come across quite a few instances in a textbook that 家 read as うち to mean the latter. What is the standard or the most popular saying?

By the way, how should I read the 家 below?
へ帰ってから、宿題をしました。

The kanji 家 can be used also for うち, except when it means us/our/our side (e.g. うちの会社 our company).

へ帰ってから、宿題をしました。
Both are possible. The meanings are the same.

Is there a reason you keep using a small Arial font, by the way?

Thanks!

Which one is more popular when Japanese people refers to going home, いえ or うち, or are they equally popular?

I didn't specifically use small Arial. I usually drafted what I wanted to say on my iPhone Notes when I got a chance and then emailed to myself when I was ready to post, then copied and pasted. The font and size probably came from the settings of the previous app.

If you like, please tell me the preference of font and size so that I can make sure the desired type is used. Sorry for the trouble.
I presume if I start the post from scratch it would be okay, but then I don't know what font and what size I'm using.

I think うち is more common for the speaker's home, but いえ is often preferred for other's home or the case used in an objective description such like narrative parts of a novel. I would read all 家 used in the excerpts in this post as いえ. Using いえ for the speaker's home or うち for other's home are not wrong, anyway.

I see. Then, you would also copy the information of the kind, size and color of the font other than the text.
There's no problem to use Arial, but the small size is a bit hard to read. How about to delete the font information?
Click the gear icon and change to BB code mode, and remove the code tags "[SIZE=3][FONT=Arial][COLOR=rgb(34, 34, 34)]" and "[/COLOR][/FONT][/SIZE]" before clicking post button.

Or more simply, change the font size to 15.

That's what I had learnt. Thanks!

Isn't the example quoted here the speaker is referring to his or her own home? You did say "Using いえ for the speaker's home or うち for other's home are not wrong, anyway. " When I'm learning I need something to go by for sure in addition to knowing the alternative ways.

Thanks! I will bear in mind.

I used the word "the excerpts", i.e., I meant the 5 excerpts quoted from novels. 家へ帰ってから、宿題をしました。 is not included in it.
