Hi there,

can someone please explain me how to use を 理由? Here is an example sentence:

私のような町娘が髪色を理由に迎え入れられるなんて

Why it that を there? Is 髪色 a direct object in some way? Why isn't it 髪色理由 or something?

"A town girl like me being ushered in because of hair color (is outrageous/too much)"
{object}を理由に means that the object serves as the reason/motivation for what follows.
It may help to imagine して after 理由に to better understand it's role in the sentence. 私のような町娘が髪色を理由に(して)迎え入れられるなんて

~が理由で also works fine in the same meaning, but ~の理由に doesn't make sense there since what follows it is the cause/reason of the preceding thing in this expression.

髪色を理由に迎え入れられる
Her hair color is the cause/reason of her being accepted.

彼女は髪色の理由に外国人であることをあげた。
The cause/reason of her hair color is that she is a foreigner.
