Hello,

というのに.png

1) The above is part of the entry for というのに from A Dictionary of Intermediate Japanese Grammar. It says that the meaning of the というのに in sentence b) is "a conjunction to indicate that an action/state takes place quite contrary to one's expectation".

Anyway, という from sentence b) belongs to the following category and is similar to the という in というのは, correct? (言う/云う/謂う(いう)の意味 - goo国語辞書)

実質的な

の意味が弱まったり、なくなったりして、常に他の語に付いて用いられる。

2) Now, I couldn't find any explanation for というなら, but I assume it works the same way? I mean, という could be interpreted both as "to say" (as in sentence a) or the other category (as in sentence b), right?
