Hi,

One of the characters in the book I'm reading says stuff like:

「だって、最年少の代表選手ざんしょ・・・ちょっと味つけにね?」
「すてきざんすわ」
「あんなガヤガヤしたところにはいたくないざんしょ」

I gather that ざんす is a formal or old-fashioned way of saying だ, yes? So what is ざんしょ? Is it related or something different?

What sort of speech is this? I mean, what type of character is she being portrayed as?

Yeah, that's more likely です/でございます and でしょ/でございましょ since that's polite speech. That was originally used by prostitutes in licensed quarters in Edo period, so it's no longer used nowadays except in a joke. The author might want to imply she is upper-class and sarcastic, just in my impression.

That remains me of トニー谷, too.
