Nagurayama Shuzō in Aizuwakamatsu was founded in 1918 under the name Matsumoto Jōzōba (松本醸造場). The brewery introduced its primary brand named Nagurayama (名倉山) in 1937. In the early 70s, Nagurayama started to craft Junmai Ginjō sake and gradually modernised their techniques: automatic kōji making machines, pasteurisers (bottling pasteurisation and rapid cooling equipment), bottling system, and a fully refrigerated warehouse. In 2020, Nagurayama launched an exclusive store brand coined "Aizu Shikon" (会津士魂).

This is an award-winning Junmai that we immensely enjoyed on a visit to the region. It has a fruity nose and, at first sip, a complex character. Full-bodied and well-balanced, it is sweet and fruity and has a refreshing bitterness.
