Koikawa Sake Brewery, founded in 1725, is located in Amarume, Yamagata Prefecture, surrounded by rice paddies in the Shonai Plain of Yamagata Prefecture. The region is the birthplace of Kamenoo rice, the root of Koshihikari, Sasanishiki, Akita Komachi, Hitomebore, Tsuyahime and other famous rice varieties well-known among sake lovers. In this blessed environment, the brewery uses the rice produced by the brewers and the brewery's underground water to create a true jizake. The brewery started producing exclusively Junmai in 2015.

Though I am sceptical when I see manga labels on sake, Koikawa's Beppin is one to go for! The fruity nose of fresh apricots, and melon, with a touch of vanilla, won us over from the first sip. The Dewa33 is mild, reserved, elegant, medium-dry and well-rounded and boasts an exquisite balance of refreshing acidity and sweetness. Smooth and clear finish.
