Hanaharu Sake Brewery is located in Aizuwakamatsu, Fukushima Prefecture, and was founded in 1718 by Miyamori Kyūemon (宮森久右衛門), a descendant of the Ōuchi clan (大内氏). Kyūemon established his sake brewery at the east gate of Tsuruga Castle and named the brewery Izutsuya (井筒屋) and the sake Tenshomune (天正宗). In 1788, the Aizu domain retainer Tanaka Gensai (田中玄宰) encouraged the development of new industries and laid the foundations for Aizu's traditional industries. Aizu became known as a sake brewing centre. In 1868, the Boshin War broke out, and the imperial troops rushed into Aizu to defeat Matsudaira Katamori, the lord of the Aizu domain who had served as governor of Kyōto. The castle was engulfed in flames, and the Izutsuya Brewery was destroyed. The fifth generation of Kyūemon's descendants quickly rebuilt the brewery and resumed sake production. In 1953, the brewery was renamed Hanaharu Sake Brewery Co., Ltd. In 2018, it celebrated its 300th anniversary.

Hanaharu also offers brewery tours.

I am not sure whether this Daiginjō is the same as the one the brewery describes on its website. Just like its Junmai Ginjō reviewed a few weeks ago, this label seems to be exclusive to Aeon markets. It is spicy as advertised, but only slightly sweet and fruity. We had it in three sittings but it just felt too much on the light side. Sadly, it did not leave any lasting impression.
