Pros
  • Concise and up-to-date (issued annually)
  • Light and small enough to carry around
  • Available as e-book
This is an excellent compendium for travellers preparing their next trip to Japan's capital. The city guide starts with an event calendar highlighting the most important matsuri (festivals), sports tournaments (e.g. sumo in January), exhibitions, conventions, and festivities for each month, handy not only to visitors but also to residents who'd like to plan ahead. "Top Days in Tokyo" offers a fun-packed four-day itinerary for those who'd like to make most of their short stay in Tokyo, while "Top Experiences" introduces the very best to see and to do, such as:
  • the Tsukiji Outer Market
  • shopping in Harajuku
  • walking tours on Omote-sandō with a particular focus on architecture, and in Yanaka
  • nights out in Shimo-Kitazawa as well as drinks with a view
  • sushi in Tokyo
  • Akihabara pop culture
  • and much more.
Other sections expand on dining out, shopping ("Treasure Hunt"), nightlife as well as cultural life ("Showtime"), all presented in great detail by neighbourhoods.

Featuring full-colour images throughout the book and pull-out maps, this is the essential guidebook we recommend to bring to your Tokyo trip: rich in essential info, up-to-date, yet light enough to carry around.

Thumbs up! I hope next year's edition will take the 2020 Olympics into account.
