Kakuonji (覚園寺) is a Buddhist temple of the Shingon sect located in Nikaidō, Kamakura. It was founded in 1296 by Hōjō Sadatoki, the ninth regent, to celebrate the victory over the Mongol invaders. Here, the statue of Aizen Myō-ō (愛染明王, Skt: Ragaraja) housed in Aizendō Hall. Aizen Myō-ō punishes those who do not follow Buddha's teachings and purifies the people's spirit of evil thought, thereby turning worldly desires and lust into spiritual awakening.
