I have been on a mission to find decent deli meats. Those of you who live in Japan can understand just how difficult that is.
Back in the US, I once had a job slicing meats and cheeses in a deli. There, I met the Genoa Salami that would rock my world so hard I now cannot imagine myself living without it. It is made by a company called BOAR'S HEAD. Their other products were good, too but their Genoa
Salami was just out of this world. It had just the right amount of tanginess to it.
I would slice it paper thin and eat it with some tabouli. I know it sounds like an odd combo but wait til you try it. If I had a tapas bar or an 窶ケ焦ステー窶ーョ, it would definitely be on the menu.
Anyway, it has been close to an entire year since the last time I had Boar's Head Genoa Salami and I don't know how much longer I can go on without that Celebrazione of flavors exploding in my mouth!
The other night I called Boar's Head and asked them if they shipped overseas. No. Their products are not sold outside the US at all.
I have heard that there are large supermarkets in tokyo that cater to Europeans and Americans. I would assume they'd have delis there.
It is a bit silly, when I think about it, to spend 2,000+ yens for the train to go all the way to Tokyo for a couple of pounds of Salami.... but now that I am back in Japan for good, I HAVE TO find a way to a steady supply of decent Genoa Salami here.
Oh, I know! I should ask all the Salami-loving Americans on the forum.
Alright, JAPAN PRACTICAL section, here I come!
