Cp+ 2018

The 2018 CP+ Camera & Photo Imaging Show is currently held at the Pacifico Yokohama Exhibition Hall and Conference Centre in Minato Mirai, the 9th edition of the foremost annual photo show in Japan. Last year over 66,000 people attended the event, and the show featured 23 world premieres.

Apart from the big manufacturers exhibiting their latest cameras and lenses (sadly, Sony's new A7 III didn't make it in time), there is a host of events and seminars, such as the Photo Weekend, with workshops, lectures, and a Photo School for complete beginners. This year's show also features one of the largest photobook fairs as well as special exhibitions on Paris commemorating the 160th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between France and Japan and the new joint Franco-Japanese photo award called LES ZOOMS. The Photo Harbor is an art community space for young photographers at Osanbashi Hall.

Personal impressions:

Less crowded than expected; great opportunity to play with the latest bodies and lenses, even if you know you will never be able to afford them. :)

We'll be back next year, better prepared and probably on a weekday.

Nikon, along with rival Canon, used to have one of the largest booths at CP+. One couldn't help noticing that this year Sony dwarfed them all.

A behemoth of a lens: the Sigma 200-500mm f/2.8 APO, 16kg, will set you back around ¥2m.
