The City of Hino (日野市) in western Tōkyō is famous for two things: the ancient Takahata Fudō temple and for being the birthplace of Hijikata Toshizō, the vice-commander of the infamous Shinsengumi brigade. It also houses the headquarters of Hino Motors and Orient Watch.

Behind the temple complex lies Tama Hills Nature Park and the (partly steep) Takahatafudō Pilgrimage Path (高幡不動尊 八十八ヶ所巡拝路). It offers beautiful vistas of the temple and Hino.
