Hi, there's this posting for a used watch which I'm interested in, but they mentioned junk in the title. Part of the item description mentions:
"昨年夏に新品購入しましたが、ゼンマイが切れたのか竜頭を巻いても抵抗がなく不動となります。
おそらくゼンマイ交換で動くと思いますが、分解などはしておりませんので詳しい状態については分かりかねます。"

Is it really a "junk" item based on their description?

Yes, based on that description. He says there is no resistance when winding the stem and he suspects the mainspring may be broken. He hasn't opened it up, so he doesn't know for certain what it wrong with it but he does say it is broken.

If you want a watch that works, this one isn't it.

Thank you. That helps with my decision. It's a luxury watch, yet priced really cheap. I think I'll still make savings even with the repair cost. Hopefully.

I have trouble imagining a luxury watch....purchased new....and when it breaks less than one year later the owner sells it as "junk' on an auction site instead of sending it back to the maker to be repaired for free under warranty.

If the watch is stolen...and it probably is....then repair facilities may have been informed of the serial number, don't you think?

It sounds to me like it is either stolen or fake.

I understand your cautionary advice, thank you, and you do make valid points. The seller showed photos of all accessories including the warranty card.

Why didn't he get it repaired for free? I can only assume that people who can easily afford a luxury brand watch hold high expectations for the product. It being broken so soon after purchase would disappoint them and would rather dispose of it rather than keep something that has a ruined reputation for them. I have seen similar complaints for this brand.

I on the other hand just like bargains :D

So he would sell it at a great loss instead of returning it and demanding a full refund?

It is a luxury brand, yet so unreliable their products commonly break soon after purchase?

Please let us know how things go with it. I would be very interested in hearing about it.

Yes, there's a lot of that. It's what keeps bargain hunters like me around auction sites. Definitely risky.

The brand does get complaints of poor performance, but not too common. Not enough to tarnish their brand name.

Will update this thread if I do happen to win it.

Might just as well be found/stolen along with the warranty card. My point is - current owner is not necessarily the person who originally purchased the watch.

What was the brand of the watch? I'm curious what luxury brand can have a reputation of breaking and still maintain its luxury image.
