Dear forum members,

Does "新規ゲームを開始する" translate to "Start a new game" (for example, as in the menu option to start a new game in a game app) ? Is there an acceptable alternative (in the context of a game app) to this phrase with less characters ?

Thanks!
Weil

Is it not「新しい」 but「新しく」 because it's related to verb, not noun, or why?
P.S. could you translate the question into Japanese?

It's not related to the verb. If it was related to the verb it would be an adverb. In English it would be "Newly start a game" if you use 新しく.

Look again.
Oops. Not very observant am I? I guess I didn't see it because it doesn't sound right to me. I'm obviously biased by the equivalent English. If Toritoribe says that's the way to go, then that's the most correct. Using that phrase, there's no confusion about it being a "(brand) new game" vs "starting anew."
Although I suspect in most gamer situations, they would use スタート, ニュー, 再スタート, etc.
