This is a little walk around Shibuya station and the famed "scramble crossing." I was just there in 2015 and I don't think it looks that much different. Of course the screens are newer and bigger and some buildings and many stores have changed. I was surprised see Hooters and Krispy Kreme there now. And Shibuya Excel Hotel, the hotel I stayed in above the station, didn't even exist back then. Many of you may be surprised to know there was actually an Arby's there on Center St in 1994. I'd go there occasionally for my American junk food fix. Arby's is long gone but I heard that a Taco Bell opened up in Shibuya somewhere this year.

I remember eating at the Arby's once. Only one I've ever been in in my life.

What was there in 1994 where Starbucks is now?

You mean the Starbucks that overlooks the intersection and faces the station? It was a coffee shop back then too but I don't remember the name. It's likely I have videos or photos from that spot. It was a great vantage point.

You're right, I was confusing it with the building next to it (across the street). You can see the cafe I was talking about at 2:00 in the video.

Wow, Thanks. For some reason I didn't realize that the front of that building is entirely renewed. In that particular Starbucks they have a great extra large photo of Shibuya crossing in the 50's or 60's.

It wasn't just the front. The whole building was torn down and replaced in the early 90s.

You mean early 00s? My video was taken in the early 90s.
Yes, you are right. The site says work was started on the new building in 1999, so it would have opened in early 2000s.
And the Seibu building seems to be the same. Maybe my use of "front" wasn't optimal!
The Seibu building is separate, and that building hasn't changed. Although it is looking a bit dated...I bet that gets replaced too by the time the new station building is finished.

I was out there during the last month of 2012 into 2013, when i got out there crosswalk i was more impress with the building and ads then the cross walk. After seeing it and compare to NYC time square, Shibuya wins hand down
