I dont know the difference between 3d japanese males and 2d, but if they're anything like there 2d anime counter parts, 1/25 is worth the time and 11/20 are horrible r.... people... Inappropriate jokes aside.

My view of Japanese males is largely based off anime preconceptions which are very negative, both from a male and female perspective. The male being, that "good looking guys just look for new women to "conquer" especially taken girls", the female "that all there interested in is toying with women till there bored of them, and will easily move on". (Then theres the negative stereotype of the ones who write theres stories...)

In response to BruceC, what there interested in is the blonde hair, blue eyes, curves and bust, American white women are stereotypically known to poses, a misconception that is easy to pick up from anime.

In response to 42kyokai, that's not surprising considering that in there culture, sex is pushed around so much it wouldn't be surprising if they're desensitized to it. Any vivid anime/game otaku(such as myself) can tell you that you can't walk away with normal sexual interest. The sheer amount that is found in it after about a year or two alone, women's breast start to lose interest(im curious if hikimori's are a escalating problem there, for a while they were making animes about them). But if the way anime portrays it, that there shifting from 3d to 2d, then its understandable.

In response to habahiroi, we would have to know a number of things because it could be a number of factors, could be appearance, personality, could be the guys your interested in (only interested in looks or a personality interest and what are those criteria), the location you search(for example, from my experience, depending on location Black men have different preferences, White, Black, Asian always acceptable but some are only.)

In response to Rinoue, i had been narrowing down on that view, excellent point. The second one is very fees able. Foreign women(white), if i'm not mistaken, are know for being experienced, and aggressive(at least as far as anime defines it). Japanese, especially this generations males, are timid and self conscious. It could be that they don't feel as though they couldn't satisfy you mentally and physically or that they wouldn't be able to keep up with cultural gaps fear of what could happen or what they don't know that they may feel that they should know in order to date you. As for long distance relationship, I would think that most wouldn't get that far along in the considerations. It could also be an old view that I believe still stands up in current japan society(largely adapted into anime, greatest factor in most cases), that they dislike (equal)competition, they dislike women who've had experience in sex, that they like to feel security by being the only one into(sorry for the pun), the woman they like, heart's and insecurity by having to compete with other men in romantic or sexual activity. From what I understand a lot of female youths are becoming less and less recluse and more assertive and wild. from the perspective of an otaku/gamer 70% of romantic fan media(the place where there delusions are unrestrained) and games are about conquering "untainted" young(looking) females(20%+ of that by force). (i get my statistic by leaving out yaoi though, that would complicate things so much if i added that in). I'd have to say that might be your biggest draw back, Japanese men like to conquer and if you have sexual experience above them then they can't do it in the place that counts most to them, from what i understand it shouldn't be just you but any woman.

If any of you feel my opinions based off anime are invalid, we can debate how a decades(as well as account of there history) of these preconceptions growing stronger and stronger in the growing anime community of japan gives weigh to some validity, if not completely to a majority of the anime community. (best example outside of anime, young Japanese school girls selling there bodies or simply attention to businessmen men(there's even a story I heard awhile back about women paying doctors to fix there hymens so they could sell there "first time" for high prices) examples of Japanese males intent to conquer(that they pay high prices for first, which is something they've done for centuries, Geisha for instance)).

I keep waiting to meet a Japanese person who knows all about Americans from incessant watching of Bugs Bunny cartoons......

There is a difference between bugs bunny, a show intended for hijinks and mockery(comic relief), and anime/manga/j games, that portrail a writers views, life experiences, desires, aspirations, fantasies, delusions, nightmares, scars. If you read anyone's work, not just Japanese, but any culture you can get a feel of the person life through there literature. But if you want to belittle (not just me but) other people's creation it's not my place to protect them, I can defend it but ultimately I can only speak as a fan. And if you don't understand the social impacts of media who's selling point is often times children then its pointless to go further with you. And even if the works are not real the writers are, any literary class will teach you that a writer can not write what they don't know/have not experience, all literature comes from the person crafted by there life's experiences.

For the sake of pointing it out, I state those are views from anime, because they are infact views I acquired through anime, and would never use outside the context of anime without attaching anime too it. If you don't know how to derive social custom out of media my time is really wasted here, but the sake of breaking down, your example, bug's bunny (over thinking things), we (American) had (at the time) valued culture and literature to a great extent("imitation is the sincerest form of flattery"), with opera, classical music reinterpretation such as Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, art (never bother with the names), Eager Allen Poe, works of Shakespeare, and classical lore, history of European culture, as well as our collective belief towards the war(at that time), and interpretations of social do's and taboo's. These were all taught to the youths without complaint, this is what was intended to raise children. Now if you compare and contrast to current day, mtv "blank" broke up with "blank" or "blank" was caught doing "something illegal, socially immoral" or some of the best, "The best way to be a "JACK ***" and nearly kill yourself". Everything revolves around irresponsible stupidity that leads to (sometimes violent) trouble and committing more violence to reprimand the situation, need I tell you (in detail) what you can derive from these shows? To sum it up, we are driven by stupidity, stupidity is valued in the media more so than anything else in America, our reality shows are a perfect example of that, how does this stand compared to the view of America from the global spectrum(though I wonder if you can answer this)?

No, I don't know how to derive Japanese social custom out of escapist fantasy cartoons. And if the end result of deriving Japanese social custom from escapist fantasy cartoons is the warped misinformed view and faux "knowledge" of real-life Japan you derive from it, then I'm glad I don't know how.

And I've never seen a "reality show" in my life.

Could you please develop the habit of hitting the space key before opening parentheses?

4/10 "...(" mistakes, so sue me, get over it, its a miniscule mistake, especially in the wake of the "social feed" age.

These cartoons are creations, a form of art. It is more than simply cartoons, Japanese games, manga, novels. (guess you never had a show like Simpsons, that can make you think and change how you live your daily life every week).

At this point seeing as, you would rather attack and ridicule my credibility, my sources, and my intelligence (and my penmanship) than create a constructive rebuttal, I really have to ask, who's being the contentious one?

You also displayed an extremely narrow and biased view, all forums of creation can be seen as a means of escaping, but instead of trying to understand you would rather label and attack with prejudice views. Simply because some is does not mean all is, and even if some is, it is not bad because of it.

There is a book in America called "Precious" of a young girl in 60-70(or so) r***d by her father and beaten by her mother, impregnated twice, running away from home the second time. With no money, no reading comprehension past elementary(not very much), at the age 14 suffered greatly(some parts I couldn't read since that book was really depressing and i was in a dark place at that time), she eventually finds help, makes this friend who teachers her how to read and write. She wrote to help escape the pain, she eventually writes the book that helps her ease the pain and find acceptance and solace with what she overcame.(description butcher book...)

You live your life based off of The Simpsons?

I thought that by the time I got done laughing I would have thought of something to say....

Nope.

Nothing.

I have absolutely no idea what any of this means. Is this some sort of language that only an anime freak understands? Or a Klingon?

My view of Japanese males is largely based off anime preconceptions
Well, that is obviously a very bad starting point. Get off the fantasy wheel and watch something a bit more realistic.

In response to BruceC,
Who? You started your own thread here. If BruceC has a thread going with questions, reply directly there.

American white women are stereotypically known to poses
Again, an expression that completely lose me.

In response to 42kyokai,
Again, who??????

that's not surprising considering that in there culture, sex is pushed around so much it wouldn't be surprising if they're desensitized to it.
To certain aspects, yes. In other ways, they are so much mentally and socially just little babies that you wouldn't believe it, especially if all you know if a cartoon character.

Any vivid anime/game otaku(such as myself) can tell you that you can't walk away with normal sexual interest.
Let's not go there.

In response to habahiroi,
Ahem!

In response to Rinoue,
Boring now.

Foreign women(white), if i'm not mistaken, are know for being experienced, and aggressive(at least as far as anime defines it
Depending on the anime, I'm sure you could say that many Japanese women are equally aggressive. Perhaps it's a blur in Hawaii.

From what I understand a lot of female youths are becoming less and less recluse and more assertive and wild.
Again, maybe in Hawaii...or on your XBox screen. Pretty lame research to help you "understand" much about the culture.

If you read anyone's work, not just Japanese, but any culture you can get a feel of the person life through there literature.
A "feel", perhaps, but not a true life perception of what real 4D creations called humans are like. How many Star Trek conventions have you attended, by the way?

If any of you feel my opinions based off anime are invalid, we can debate how a decades(as well as account of there history) of these preconceptions growing stronger and stronger in the growing anime community of japan gives weigh to some validity, if not completely to a majority of the anime community.
How about the real life community?

There is a book in America called "Precious" of a young girl in 60-70(or so) r***d by her father and beaten by her mother, impregnated twice, running away from home the second time. With no money, no reading comprehension past elementary(not very much), at the age 14 suffered greatly
So, if a person reads nothing except this sort of stuff about the U.S. (or any country), would you then say that it makes the generality that most people are like that?

To sum it up, we are driven by stupidity
Well, put, and so ironic.

Anime Perceptions of Japan

I believe this started off as a meandering reply to another thread and the moderators split it off and started a new thread for him. Presumably the people he is replying to got left in the other thread.

Maybe this would be a better source to learn about Japanese culture from.

The things to be found on YouTube, I swear...

Yes, it was split since the top post in this thread and everything after it had nothing to do with why a real Japanese male may or may not want to date the OP. Even if she was a drive by poster, Bakasentai's rambleings about anime and how he thinks it conforms to real life Japan shouldn't hijack her thread. For your convienience, the original thread can be found here.

Also Bakasentai, I don't know about you, but I, for one, will never lose interest in the female breast, just saying.

Yes this was a reply to another tread.

I never stated that what I know was "fact" nor that I "perceive" it as true, but that my "preconceptions" are, from the very beginning, obscured by anime. I take very little as fact from it, but I do not assume that all of it is untrue either. Let alone "complete" delusional rambling of outcast Japanese citizens creating completely artificial world called Japan.

glenski, you take things too literally...
"because they are infact views I acquired through anime, and would never use outside the context of anime without attaching anime too it".
As said, I don't believe this outside anime, I simply applied it to the tread because I thought it was a funny view and that some people would laugh at the stupidity of it, not misinterpret it as my actual belief.
The only comments said seriously were the "In response"s and the debate over the significance of art in terms of culture.

"A "feel", perhaps, but not a true life perception of what real 4D creations called humans are like. How many Star Trek conventions have you attended, by the way?"
What "4D" are you talking about? Do I have to bother with your star trek assumption?

"How about the real life community?"
Otaku's are not real people or a community?

"So, if a person reads nothing except this sort of stuff about the U.S. (or any country), would you then say that it makes the generality that most people are like that?"
A single story is enough to make generality? Sure then I guess. Was I making generality off anime? No, just silly misconceptions (the generality was with the addition of other sources of knowledge including history). I'd be surprised if there were as many "precious like" books as there are manga's released a year (some 100-300), but if there were then it would be fair assumption that it is a common occurrence. (Especially since racial discrimination, physical and sexual abuse, and proper parenting is a still growing concern in America.)

Jeisan, the "in response" was in context to the op and the other post. I never stated that real life Japan and anime Japan was the same, I did state "preconception" not "perception".
I, myself, never lost interest in 3d. Just that from a personal experienced view, I've seen how their cartoons and what derives from them could do.

I admit, I went off rambling the part of "don't attack something I like", while everyone was deriving from me that I believed everything I stated, which is what I should have clarified more on. I again stated most of my anime related comments out of humor and a few from fear of Mike piling on to me "where do you get your facts from?".

Real life community was meant to describe everyone in the real world, not the anime world.
4D means you, me, and all other humans who are 3-dimensional and also live in a 4th dimension called time. Sorry that got lost.

As for your humor/seriousness getting lost, yup. They did. The fact that you responded to a multitude of other people without us knowing what they had said didn't help.

As for debating things, you said it yourself:
If any of you feel my opinions based off anime are invalid, we can debate how a decades(as well as account of there history) of these preconceptions growing stronger and stronger in the growing anime community of japan gives weigh to some validity, if not completely to a majority of the anime community.
Please read this (terribly ungrammatical) sentence. It screams that the anime world is akin to reality. At least, that's how I read it.

"majority of the anime community"
That says it all, but there is one line you wrote that is even more disturbing, almost trekkie in nature:
For the sake of pointing it out, I state those are views from anime, because they are in fact views I acquired through anime, and would never use outside the context of anime without attaching anime too it.

The only thing i would say, Is that sex in Japanese culture (in the media not real life) - and thus how it is portrayed in anime.

is very rapey.

especially in the sound and noises they have the women make.
