Probably either Chinese or a rarely used variant of 痛

Could you tell us where and in what context you saw it?

It is being used by a friend as a description of himself. I think it would make sense to have something to do with suffering.

It is a game he is playing with me. I want to surprise him by identifying the character. Thanks for your help.

Don't thank me; I gave you the wrong answer. If you want to thank somebody, thank the guy who gave you the correct answer and which you haven't even acknowledged yet.

It doesn't work as a description. It's just a word: a fragment of an adjective really. By itself it is just a somewhat obscure, isolated kanji. It doesn't have any deep, profound meaning, but maybe I'm missing part of the game.
