Hello! I need to write “released music pieces” and “unreleased music pieces”. I found two different words, but I'm not sure which one is proper:
1a. 発売曲 - released music pieces.
2a. 未発売曲 - unreleased music pieces.

1b. 発表曲 - released music pieces.
2b. 未発表曲- unreleased music pieces.

Can somebody please help me with this?

発売 means "on sale", whereas 発表 is not always so. 発表 might be just "performed/demonstrated", and not on the market.

What about "公開"? Can i use it instead of 発売/発表?

EDIT: OK, I will stay with 発表曲/未発表曲。I think that it express what I want to say。
公開 and 未公開 would be my choice.

既発表曲 / 未発表曲 more clearly shows the difference between "already-released" and "unreleased".

There also is another choice (既)公表 / 未公表.

It totally depends on what "release" means in the context. The concept of the English word is overlapping the ones of the Japanese words 発売, 発表, 公開 or 公表. For instance, when a song has already been performed in a concert but hasn't been on sale yet, the song is 既発表曲 / 既公開曲, but not 既発売曲. It's 未発売曲.

If you mean Released for Sale which is probably most typical then 発売 would be the way to go. But if you need to cover cases like Toritoribe-san mentioned then it would be different.

All the songs were used as a background music in TV show and movies. Some of them were never released on CD, some of them were released.
In this situation, I should use 発売? Am I right?
Released for sale (on CD): 発売曲
Never before released for sale (but used in a movie): 未発売曲

The main point is to say that some of the songs were released in the past and are available and that some of them were never released and aren't available.

OK. I will stay with 発売済 vs 未発売. Thank you very much for help. I really appreciate it.

EDIT: One thing concerns me... Can I skip 曲? I'm not sure if the one who will read that will understand that I am talking about music...
