My boyfriend and i are going to Japan for about 15 days, i am from Canada and he is from Turkey.
We both love Japan and can't wait to go!
However i feel i have a bit of a problem.
While i was visiting him in Turkey he told me that Muslims don't eat pork, when i asked him if he was Muslim he said he was but wasn't that devout to the religion and that mostly his family was.
When i asked him if he had pork before he said no, i asked if it was because it was against his religion and he said "No, i just don't want to try it".
When we are in Japan he doesn't want to try Pork, he said that he refuses to try it at all, i really don't want to offend the tour guide as i think refusing to try new food is rude.
My boyfriend thinks that i should help him keep from eating pork on the trip, but secretly i really don't want to help if this is just a picky eater thing and not a religious thing!
I want to try new foods in Japan and i'm open to eating everything from there, we are suppose to be dining at Ryokans and nice hotels most of the time and i would be very embarrassed if i offended the host with this problem.
I love my boyfriend and respect his religion, should i help out my boyfriend? Or would this offend people?
Has anyone been to Japan and had to order different because of allergies or religious reasons? Has this caused any problems?
Any advice would help, Thank you
