Heya~

Some time ago, I've come across this expression in a story and since then, I've been wondering what it meant.

I've found two possible meanings, either "acting according to the situation" (like whether you are at work or in private) or "taking responsibility for something you did".
However, both kinda don't fit the situation in the story, as the characters were talking about what *someone else* did and then said: "kejime wo tsukeru".

Just from the context, without knowing the word, I would have thought that they say: "I will punish you!" or something like that. (Because that's what they did afterwards.) XD
But that obviously isn't covered by any of the meanings I found.
So confusing!
What do you think it could mean?

Thank you! :D
This has had my mind busy for so long, without finding the answer. Now I finally know. *-*
