1) This is fine but just want to mention that you can also say "the law." However "the law" means more than just "laws" because "the law" would include legal procedures, how to make contracts, etc.

4) This phrase is usually used when you are making an opinion or have incomplete knowledge of something. Hence it doesn't really make sense to talk about yourself in this way because it's a factual statement. "I'm really interested in British music." Better would be "As far as I'm concerned, British music is the best."

7) the Emperor.

Plus "the law" would be better because "the law" is the subject, "laws" are of course individual laws and you don't "know a lot about" individual things, you just know them, or know many of them. You would never say "I know a lot about today's football scores" or "I know a lot about the answers to these questions," you would just say "I know", but knowing laws is not a test. As mdchachi says "the law" encompasses a lot more than knowing individual laws.

Thank you for the help, mdchachi and Michael2.

Would these sentences sound right?
1 That elderly man knows a lot about the law. He must have been a lawyer.
[Do you also say "He knows a lot about the computer"?]

4 As far as I am concerned, the Guardian is the best newspaper in Britain.
[I don't know if it's true, though.]

7 According to the newspaper article, the Emperor will resign next year.
[Do you ever say "newspaper article"?]

1) Good.
It should be "he knows a lot about computers" unless you are talking about one specific computer.
4) Good.
7) Good. "Newspaper article" is perfectly fine. As far as I'm concerned, this newspaper article is fake news.

Thanks for the help, mdchachi. And thanks for giving me the new example sentence. (^_^)/
