Hello I was if any one can help me with my psychology project. I am supposed to interview Japanese/ Japanese-Americans people.
It's 20 questions and there about, family and Kinship, Economy, Education, Power Politics, Government, religion, and Health Care.
If anyone is interested in helping me out I would greatly appreciate it.
I can email you the interview questions if you are interested. Contact me ASAP

Thank you.

Sounds interesting. I'm not Japanese so can't really help you out with it.

Maybe you could show us some of the questions and some that have been living in Japan and/or have lots of knowledge about Japan could at least give you some insights .

Good luck with your project!

Family and Kinship

How does dating work? How did your grandma meet your grandfather and is this typical for their culture?

-Are there any specific rules for dating? Ie. Irish people are expected to not socialize with English people?

- How are parental responsibilities managed? Are there specific roles for each spouse in relationships and with children?

-What types of families are common? Nuclear, extended, single parent?

-How is divorce perceived?

Economy

-How do people make a living? Are they farmers, fisherman. merchants, industrial laborers, service providers, etc.?

-Any specific technologies they use that you can remember?

-Do you know what type of Economic system they use? like socialistic. open-market capitalistic?

I think these questions are going to be fairly similar to the US's system because I am talking about Japanese-Americans and not just strictly Japanese. So I understand if they are weird or hard to answer. I can take care of it.

Education System

-How is education expected to be delivered? Public school, Private, Home?

-Is education open and expected of everyone or are certain people more privy to education than others?

-How long do children attend school?

-What about adult education. Does that occur often? At this question I am thinking mainly college or after college degree work.

Power Politics, Government

-Who has the power in the group?

-How is the power passed on to others?

Type of political system in place?

-What does the power structure look like?

This again is going to be similar to the US's government. You dont have to answer them cause i already know.

Religion

What kinds of formal or informal organizations are in place to answer larger metaphysical questions? like are there churches, temples, mosques?

-How important is religion to the people?

Health Care

-What is in place for preventing illness?

-Are there alternatives to these systems?

I guess. I know the health care system of the US, what i am asking is...( I had a friend who was in an atv accident and her mother took her to a shaman or something in mexico instead of the dr and she tells me this weird story or herbs burning and potions and chanting) Do you guys do anything outside of our public health care system?

How do people keep healthy?

Good grief! How can you expect anyone to answer those questions with any type of response that you can use in research? I mean, besides most people not knowing how their grandparents met, most of the other questions practically require a thesis for each one! Are you going to use text-mining software to sort out the replies? How are you going to ensure that responders are indeed Japanese and not just some anonymous bozo trying to mess with you? I've seen outlandish surveys in my time but this is the one that is furthest from reality in its expectations. Sorry for being so brutal. I hope your advisor was not involved in making this with you because he should be shot.

I just want people to answer as much as they can, and from there I still need to summarize all the answers that I've got, then input them one report. So if you can't answer some of the questions then that's totally fine.
Yeah my professor loves me lol that's why I got this one

Take this as constructive criticism. Your survey is all over the board, and asking so many essay-type questions and especially with such broad answers is not the way to do a survey. If your advisor signed off on them, then he/she is stupid. You are going to have to use text-mining software on each one, and I have a feeling you don't have a clue what I'm talking about or how long it will take.

Summarize all the answers? If you get half a dozen answers you will still have a hard time because the sample size is too small to make any generalizations. If you get 50 or 100 people to respond, you are going to need serious help just to be sure the so-called summaries actually have related words and expressions allowing them to fall into groups which you can then categorize. Doing that by hand will be hard as hell after a dozen respondents.

Try this reference book to see what I mean. Or this one. Or these.

I'm not Japanese, so I won't be answering them. I looked in on this thread because my wife is Japanese, and I thought she might be able to help you out. No way.

It's not just that the questions are broad; a number of them hardly fit in a survey since they ask for factual information that's easy to look up.

How do people make a living? Are they farmers, fisherman. merchants, industrial laborers, service providers, etc.?
The Japanese Statistics Bureau has you covered.

Any specific technologies they use that you can remember?
Mostly the same technologies as used elsewhere in the world?

What is in place for preventing illness?
Japanese also get vaccinated.

and so on and so on. Why bother asking these things to people via a survey?

lanthas is 100% correct. I have held off in saying that just so I could focus on the survey design itself, but yes, most info can easily be looked up. If this is a psychology project, what is its purpose in determining something psychologically related? It looks more like a mere fact-finding project.
