I've been learning japanese for about 2 years now and its embarrassing that I can still mess up kara for some reason. I know that it always needs a result for kara, for example since sentence a happened sentence b happened. But I'm having troubles placing some of my sentences.

for example, 今日母の誕生日だから、やとにフランスの料理に行ってみます。
Since it is my mom's bday, (we)finally tried going for french food.

And then my second problem appears. Do I use tried going to the restaurant or do I use 食べてみます?

やとに doesn't make sense. You seem to be confusing やっと and ついに.
"Tried" is past.

今日は母の誕生日だから、ついにフランス料理を食べに行ってみました。

Oh yes, thank you. I don't know why I keep confusing the two I even wrote it wrong.
It makes so much more sense now that you added 食べas a noun, I completely forgot we can write it like that.

Indeed the -masu stem of verbs can be used as a noun, but this structure should be considered as "the -masu stem of verbs に行く", meaning "to go doing", and not "noun に行く". For instance, 買い物しに行く is valid, but 買い物し is never treated as a noun.
