Friend of mines found this passage about WW2 Lanterns? And was wondering what it was about. Thanks

First image:
Type 92 switchable lantern body. At the top there is a handle for carrying. The thin cylinder at the bottom holds the candle and has a slit for letting air in. The middle part outputs the light, which can be blocked or let through by rotating a disc-shaped cover.

Second:
Type 92 switchable lantern light-emitting part. The candle holder is in front of a reflective plate; the wick peeks out of it.
