I have done research into the history of Japanese explorers and diplomatic expeditions and found Hasekura Tsunenaga as the earliest diplomat from Japan in North America (Mexico, New Spain in the 17th century). Hasekura also left a number of his vassals behind in Mexico to serve as merchants and diplomats in 1614 as he visited Europe.

I am interested if anyone knows of any earlier expeditions by Japanese explorers or diplomats to the Americas.
