We May Have Problems, But at Least We're Not Jailing Artists for 3-D Printing Their Vaginas - The Daily Show - Video Clip | Comedy Central

I don't know whether anyone outside the U.S. will be able to view the video at the link, but it's from the Daily Show with John Stewart. It's about the glaring double-standard that exists in Japan over human "private parts".

A lot of people know about the various phallic festivals in Japan, where giant penises are carried around and paraded, but at the same time, an artist was recently jailed for selling 3-D replicas of her vagina.

Why was she jailed? I mean, I thought replica vaginas were nothing new in Japan. Was it too realistic?

I heard about this on Friday, then happened to catch the Daily Show yesterday. It's pretty ridiculous. Even without the comparison to the giant schlongs Japanese temples sometimes make, I don't think it was arrest worthy.

I passed through Uwajima in Shikoku years back, and there is a sex shrine there. Giant wooden ***** for all the world to see. No matter of indecency there.

As I understand it, the indecency laws are specifically aimed at male and female reproductive organs. The "business tools", so to speak. That's why sometimes you will see topless women without the mozaic, but the bottom is always blurred out.

The only thing I can think of is that it was either too realistic or her advertising was too graphic.

In all honesty, I don't like what she's doing, but I don't like the double standard, either.

Why is it that the female organ should be deemed more obscene than the male counterpart? If one is obscene, then surely they are equally so?

She was arrested for violating obscene material distribution laws. She was released, but her case is still pending.

Absolutely ridiculous.

At last, we agree on something!

And I dub this police harassment.

And I will add that I am sick of the oppression of female sexuality whether its here in Japan or in the west (where my compatriots seem blind to the modes of doing it there.).

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that all the porn is censored too? I don't know, but yeah it does seem like a double standard. I think the lower region of everyone is seen as more taboo. I mean, I've seen movies where the tops of females and the bottoms of males were shown, but I've never seen one where the bottom of a female was shown (Eurotrip). It is probably just seen as more taboo. Just as men can walk around shirtless but women can't.
