Dear native English speakers,
in the new lesson, students are going to learn about the usage of "be to".
So I create a passage from my experience. Would you correct it if needed?

Tom Martak was an American friend of mine. Although he was sick, he visited Kyoto , where I live, in 2007. I showed him and his friend around Kyoto in my car. He enjoyed staying in Kyoto. A few years later he passed away. That was to be his last trip to Japan.

Thanks in advance.

Hirashin
