this suru verb is translated into "be modest" and is obviously intransitive verb. Why is it classified as 名・他サ変 in 明鏡国語辞典?

へりくだること。自慢したり高ぶったりせず、控えめであること。「自分の学識を─する」「それはご─でしょう」
 
自分の学識謙遜する

To take を as the object marker is one of the most common definition of transitive verbs in Japanese grammar.
 
i know that, but it feels weird because that would mean you are humbling one your of talent or skill, instead of acting humble.
