Hello everyone,
Here with another question bogging down my mind. Came upon two sentences that appears to be similar, in terms of particle usage. These two sentences use は after a verb in Te-form.

1.「しまった。殺してしまって、二度と魔法をとくことはできない。」

2.「わたしは生きて、愛する王子さまをくるしめて、不幸にしまう。」

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I translated sentence one correctly, it translates to,
"Oh no! I killed him, and now the magic will never again dissolve!" What confuses me is the は particle, how does it affect the sentence? My grammar book doesn't explain a lone は particle after the Te-form.

The second sentence, "I continue to live, and I'm miserably torturing the prince whom I love!" Again, I don't understand the は particle in the context.

Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!
