Hello,

I encountered this sentence, and I don't know what to make of this 自給自足される. The author is describing some person that has mushrooms naturally growing on its body.
しばらくは体に生えたキノコを食べて 自給自足されることが予想されます。

I assume the author is saying "It's expected that she can live for a while just by eating the mushrooms growing on her body.". But using passive seems strange. Is he saying something like (食べ物が)自給自足される?

I don't think this is 尊敬 either, since the author doesn't use it in the previous sentences.

It would be simply a misuse of 自給自足する, or 体が自給自足される using the passive form to show non-volition. (Probably it's the former.)

I see. I thought it might be just a mistake, but usually it's me the one who is wrong :D

Thank you, Toritoribe!
