The Yokoyama Taikan Memorial Museum opened its doors to the public in November 1976. It is located in the former residence of Yokoyama Taikan in Ikenohata, Taito-ku. This decision was driven by Taikan's strong desire, expressed before his death, that his home be used as a public space to benefit the Japanese art world. In February 2009, the museum was designated a national historic site and place of scenic beauty, officially recognizing its significance as "Yokoyama Taikan's Former Residence and Garden." As a testament to one of the greatest painters of the early modern period, we hope that the exhibition of Taikan's art will not only enrich the Japanese art world but also contribute to Japan's cultural improvement and development. We seek your continued support in this endeavour.
