The castle town of Izushi is often referred to as Little Kyoto because of its historical buildings from the Meiji Era, such as the Eirakukan (a playhouse) and the Izushi Meijikan. The locally made Izushi soba (buckwheat noodles) are a speciality of the area. On the 3rd of November (National Holiday), a castle festival with a procession of daimyo takes place.
