The Kansai Information Center (KIIS, 般財団法人関西情報センタ) was established in 1970 as a promotion base for computerization, centred on the business community in Kansai, with the support of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Osaka Prefecture, Osaka City, and local universities. To contribute to the development of industry and revitalization of the Kansai region, research on information and communication technology, research on regional promotion such as informatization of administration/region and town development, and dissemination and promotion of national informatization measures. KIIS develops a wide range of activities such as symposiums and seminars, system development of health insurance-related business, information processing business, etc. From April 2002, due to the reorganization and integration of related organizations, the foundation will take over part of the business of the Kansai Industrial Revitalization Centre.
