Item details

Hokkaido Ramen Santouka (らーめん山頭火 Rāmen Santōka), is a Japanese ramen restaurant chain. Its main office is located in Sapporo, Hokkaido. It has over 21 stores in Japan, an international presence in North America and Southeast Asia, and 32 stores in 9 countries. After seeing Tampopo (a movie about ramen), the founder, Hitoshi Hatanaka, was disappointed in the ramen he ate with his family in a restaurant and decided to do something about it. He said he was going to make ramen for his family and developed his own tonkatsu soup for ramen. The first Ramen Santouka restaurant was established in Asahikawa on March 10, 1988, with only nine seats and one item on the menu, the shio (salt) ramen. It soon became known as "the ramen restaurant with the odd name and consistently full seats". In 1994, Ramen Santouka opened its first store in Tokyo, starting its rapid expansion in Japan and abroad. In 1995, the "April Foods" corporation began to increase the number of franchises.
